Nursery Furniture Must Haves
Why do you need a separate room for the baby you might ask and the reason is that your baby needs his/her own space that is quiet and completely clean and free from outside germs as much as possible. The nursery area is the one place you and baby can retire to when you are both tired. Also, familiarity allows your child to sleep and grow.
Some Nursery Furniture Must Haves:
First and foremost you will have to move out all the furniture from the old room, clean it, paint it and install the rug or carpet if you are thinking of having one. It you don’t have a rug that is pre-installed then it is advisable that you don’t install one as then the floor would be easier to clean and this reduces the chances of dust mites.
Baby Cot/Crib – One of the first and the most important items of furniture you will need for your baby is the baby cot or crib. It is imperative that you choose correctly and the mattress isn’t too soft or too hard other wise the baby will be very uncomfortable. Make sure the baby crib has casters so that it is easy to be moved around if the need arises. Some cots even come with the option to be converted to cots once the baby has outgrown it and the furniture store will either help you with the transformation or they come with easy do-it-yourself manuals.
Hammocks – You even have rocking cribs which are a good option as the rocking motion is said to help the baby sleep. Hammocks are a good option for the baby till they are around 12 months old. Hammocks generally come with frame, sling, mattress and they also come in a compact handy bag which allows you to cart the hammock along for convenience.
Moses Baskets/Bassinets – Moses baskets can be used for the baby when they are extremely small. They are easy to carry around the house without lifting the baby. Bassinets are not easy to move around but they are an equally good alternative for cots.
Mattresses and Linen – This is another feature you need to pay attention to as the material of the mattress and the linen should be baby friendly and allergy free. It is best that you opt for natural fabrics as they are the least likely to cause trouble for the baby. Make sure the mattress is of the exact size of the cot where there is no gap through which the baby can slip through.
Changing Tables – This has got to be the most useful piece of nursery furniture. Changing tables are made from a variety of materials ranging from wood to plastic. They are also manufactured in such a way that there are cabinets and cupboards underneath for storage. The best changing tables are made from wood and coated with a non toxic paint. Some tables even come with baby straps that hold the baby in place avoiding any mishap. Some tables even have added features of suspended mobiles overhead to keep the baby occupies while you are changing them.
Rocking Chair – The rocking movement is said to be very comforting for the baby and so a rocker chair comes in handy especially when the baby refuses to quiet down. They are also useful for mothers when breast feeding.
Rockers and Bouncing Chairs – These are useful as all you have to do is place the baby in this chair and they love the movement. They can be rocked by you when it is their sleep time. These chairs come with soft detachable material that can be easily washed in case of stains.
Dressers/Cupboards – You will need ample storage space in your nursery to store all the baby clothes and even keep a change of maternity clothing for your self. Make the correct use of the space in your nursery to avoid cramping the space. If you have less horizontal space then plan upwards. A chest of 3-6 drawers should be enough for the basic storage. This furniture can easily be utilized at a later date as well. Choose a cupboard with separate compartments for all the baby wear. You will also require furniture accessories like car seats, diaper pails, Backpacks, diaper bags, carriers, etc. If you are looking for quality nursery furniture and maternity wear then you could consider the name Fragile.
